In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night....

Today's reading: "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light." Ephesians 5:8

Okay, so I am a huge Green Lantern fan. If you have not read about Green Lantern in the comics (not to be confused by the Green Hornet--a different hero,) there is a movie about him in theaters this weekend. I know this is a bit of a worldly stretch, but I want to use the example of how the world is full of darkness, and how Jesus is the one true light. In the comics Hal Jordan becomes earth's protector through a ring powered by a huge green power battery, a green colored lantern. Really what gives Hal Jordan his power is his ability to overcome great fear. Green is the color of will power, powered by the green lantern. What I am getting at here is that Jesus is our power battery. He is the true light in our life. For example in John's gospel it says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men." John 1: 1-4 NKJV

Through Jesus we have the power to overcome the daily obstacles we face. That which empowers us is our belief in Christ and His ability to strengthen us. In Philippians 4:13 it tells the believer, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Just remember the source, Jesus is your strength.

As we walk each day, our thoughts on what we read in the Bible, which in a sense is our green lantern ring, be filled by the Holy Spirit, let us walk with "...love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith." 1 Timothy1:5

My prayer for today is: Jesus let your will be done in our lives today. Let our hearts be filled full from the light of your Word, and help strengthen us when we face battles. You are the true light, the light that gives us life. Thank you for Your kindness and love. Help us to be lights to those who have yet to know you Jesus. In Your name, Amen.

  1. Nice parallel & very inspirational. My favorite passage that I try to live by is Philippians 4:13 as it and He gives me strength to get through each day. I draw on His ever flowing fountain of strength as I need it.
