Today's Reading: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way." Psalm 37:23 (NKJV)
Responsibility is the opposite of blame. If you consider that when you love someone, love doesn't hold on to a grudge. Remember, when you mess up, you mess up. It is not about pointing fingers, or finding blame. A friend once reminded me that,"when I point my finger in judgement, there are always three more pointing back at me."(Anonymous)
We are called to be responsible in our lives amongst each other, loving one another as Christ loved us. In 1 Corinthians, I am reminded that, "Love is...not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." (from 1Cor.13:4-8,italics mine.) With love, responsibility recognizes what needs to be done and does it. Being responsible means stepping-up to bear the burden when others will not. It means recognizing your shortcomings and confessing your sin before Christ, asking forgiveness and for grace to not make the same mistake twice.
Being responsible in your life means being real with who you are and with God. Since God desires us to have a relationship with Him that is holy (set apart), we must know that the consequences of not being responsible leads to the denial of the truth. In John's gospel, Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) If we deny the "Truth," now seeing Jesus as the truth personified, it makes us irresponsible and we deny Jesus for who he says he is...the savior of our world.
As for me, I will choose to believe the Truth.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to live truthfully through your Word and by your Holy Spirit. Guide me in the decision I make each day and help my steps be in the proper order. Help me to be responsible with the gospel message you have entrusted to me. Thank you for your tender mercies and your grace. Help me to continue growing in that grace that I might love others as you have loved me. Amen.
